As firefighters in Northern California continue battling the nation's largest active wildfire, a new blaze ignited in Northern Colorado on Monday, triggering evacuations and alarming health alerts due to poor air quality.
The Park Fire in Northern California has become the state's largest wildfire this year and ranks as the sixth-largest in its history, scorching 1,511 square kilometers across four counties.
According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), the blaze reached 12 percent containment by Monday afternoon. The fire's swift spread is attributed to abundant vegetation combined with one of the area's hottest and driest summers on record.
The Park Fire's path of destruction has led to the loss of 109 structures and damage to five more, with over 4,200 additional structures under threat.
