The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has pledged a massive reforestation effort to restore areas devastated by frequent wildfires. By the end of the year, over 500 million seeds and saplings will be planted annually to rejuvenate Türkiye's forest ecosystems.
Minister Ibrahim Yumakli highlighted the urgency of addressing the recurring forest fires that have raised significant concerns about deforestation in the region. \"Year-round efforts in forest fire prevention and reforestation are crucial to maintaining our natural landscapes,\" Yumakli stated.
In addition to planting seeds, the ministry is enhancing its firefighting capabilities by acquiring eight new firefighting helicopters, expected to arrive in 2028. This initiative aims to provide more robust and timely responses to wildfire outbreaks, ensuring the preservation and recovery of Türkiye's valuable forests.
