Cyprus is grappling with a relentless heatwave, resulting in tragic consequences for its residents. On Monday, a 67-year-old woman succumbed to heatstroke at a state hospital in Nicosia. Additionally, three more women aged between 25 and 80 are currently receiving treatment for heat-related illnesses.
The surge in heat exhaustion cases is particularly alarming, especially concerning the well-being of children and young individuals. A state health services spokesman highlighted, \"The situation has worsened in recent days due to the persisting heatwave,\" emphasizing the increasing number of younger victims.
Last week, the heatwave's impact extended beyond civilians when a young commando conscript had to be urgently evacuated to a hospital in France after collapsing during military training. Another conscript is currently being treated in Cyprus for similar heat-induced symptoms.
