Cambodia’s Cardamom Park Discovers Largest Group of Rare Siamese Crocodile Nests in 20+ Years

In a significant conservation breakthrough, five nests of the nearly-extinct Siamese crocodiles have been uncovered in Cambodia's Cardamom National Park. This discovery marks the largest number of Siamese crocodile nests found in over two decades, a conservationist group announced in a joint press release on Thursday.

The nests, totaling 106 eggs, were meticulously monitored by park rangers and local communities. Of these, 66 eggs were fertilized, demonstrating promising signs for the species' revival. Between June 27 and 30, 2024, 60 Siamese crocodile eggs successfully hatched, signaling a hopeful future for these elusive reptiles.

Cardamom National Park, renowned for its rich biodiversity, plays a crucial role in safeguarding endangered species. The successful hatching of these crocodiles highlights the effective collaboration between conservationists and local communities, emphasizing the importance of sustained efforts in wildlife preservation.
