Heavy rainfall continues to impact several regions in China, prompting local governments to ramp up rescue operations to support residents affected by the floods. Areas particularly hard-hit include southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan Province, and central China's Anhui Province.
The National Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for rainstorms, the third tier in a four-level warning system, as torrential rains persist across the country. According to the Chongqing Hydrological Monitoring Center, 13 districts and counties experienced significant rainstorms between 8 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday, leading to water levels surpassing warning thresholds in six rivers.
One of the most affected areas is the Daqingliu River, which flows between Sichuan and Chongqing. On Sunday at 4 p.m., water levels rose 0.29 meters above the warning level in Rongchang District, resulting in the flooding of residential areas and farmlands. In response, local authorities swiftly organized the evacuation of residents to ensure their safety. As of 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, a total of 3,654 people had been evacuated from the district.
The ongoing rescue efforts highlight the challenges faced by communities during extreme weather events and the importance of coordinated response measures to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
