Unprecedented heavy rainfall has struck Chongqing Municipality in southwest China, resulting in six fatalities, local authorities announced Thursday.
The tragic deaths occurred in Dianjiang County following intense rainstorms from Wednesday night to Thursday morning, with recorded precipitation reaching an all-time high of 254.6 millimeters. Four individuals lost their lives due to geological disasters triggered by the downpours, while two others drowned.
Since Wednesday evening, violent storms have inundated the region, causing water levels in 15 rivers to surpass alert thresholds. Emergency services are actively responding to the crisis to mitigate further impact on residents.
