Mumbai, India’s bustling financial hub, is currently grappling with relentless heavy rains that have disrupted daily life significantly. Over the past 20 hours, the city has seen more than 300 millimeters of rainfall, leading to severe water logging in numerous areas.
As a result, schools and other educational institutions in and around Mumbai have been shut down to ensure the safety of students and staff. Additionally, all university examinations scheduled for Tuesday at the University of Mumbai have been postponed, with the administration announcing that new dates will be communicated soon.
The heavy downpours have also taken a toll on transportation services, with trains and flights experiencing significant delays and cancellations. Commuters are facing challenges as water accumulation disrupts normal transit operations.
In response to the flooding, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed across several affected areas. Efforts are underway to relocate residents from low-lying zones to safer locations, mitigating the risks posed by the ongoing rains.
The India Meteorological Department has forecasted that the heavy rainfall will persist in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra for the next few days, urging residents to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols.
