Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Mumbai, Indiaโs financial hub, on Monday, flooding roads and railway lines. The downpour disrupted flights and forced the closure of schools and colleges, causing a ripple effect across the city.
Civic officials reported that over 300 millimeters of rain hit Mumbai, a city of 12 million, in the six hours leading up to 7 a.m., just before the morning rush hour began. The overflowing rivers and inundated infrastructure have affected more than 2 million people, highlighting the intense impact of the heavy monsoon season.
