Severe Mumbai Rains Disrupt Transport, Close Schools

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Mumbai, India’s financial hub, on Monday, flooding roads and railway lines. The downpour disrupted flights and forced the closure of schools and colleges, causing a ripple effect across the city.

Civic officials reported that over 300 millimeters of rain hit Mumbai, a city of 12 million, in the six hours leading up to 7 a.m., just before the morning rush hour began. The overflowing rivers and inundated infrastructure have affected more than 2 million people, highlighting the intense impact of the heavy monsoon season.
