Chinese Premier Li Qiang Enhances Flood Control Measures in Jiangxi

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has underscored the critical importance of flood control and disaster relief in ensuring the safety of residents and maintaining social stability. During his recent visit to Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, Li emphasized the need for heightened vigilance, improved preparedness, and robust rescue operations.

While inspecting flood prevention efforts at a hydrologic station near the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake, Li highlighted the significance of accurate forecasting and early warning systems. He called for stronger interdepartmental collaboration to enhance the precision of disaster predictions.

Li also reviewed the reinforcement of the Yangtze River levee and the storage of essential flood-control materials. He stressed the importance of inspecting and protecting embankments during severe weather and ensuring ample stockpiles of necessary resources.

At a geological disaster site in Bailu Town, Lushan City, Li advocated for prioritizing disaster prevention during periods prone to landslides and debris flows. He urged prompt evacuation of residents from high-risk areas upon detection of potential dangers.

Addressing a flood control meeting in Bailu, Li noted the frequent extreme weather events this year and called for stringent measures to prevent secondary disasters from heavy rainfall. He emphasized the need to identify and address weaknesses in urban flood-control and drainage systems and to bolster flood prevention efforts on agricultural lands.

Li also highlighted the pivotal role of water-conservancy projects in flood management, advocating for comprehensive precautionary measures to handle extreme situations and immediate rescue operations in the event of disasters.
