Chen Fei has ventured across China’s diverse landscapes, from the majestic Mount Qomolangma to the lush tropical rainforest in Xishuangbanna. But Chen’s journeys aren’t fueled by leisure; they are driven by a profound commitment to wildlife conservation.
As the director of the Asian Elephant Research Center under China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration, Chen has dedicated over a decade to safeguarding China's wildlife and preserving the nation’s nature reserves. At 37, he has spearheaded dozens of scientific surveys and planning projects aimed at maintaining the delicate balance of these ecosystems.
“I have a special affinity for nature,” Chen shared in an interview with China Media Group (CMG). “I was born in a small county by the Yangtze River. I used to herd cows. I watched them chew grass, observed the grasshoppers in the grass and the longhorn beetles on the tree trunks. It was fun.”
Chen’s deep connection with nature extends beyond observation. “Seeing the sun shine on the giant trees, I could even feel the plants' growing power,” he added, highlighting his immersive experience within these vibrant environments.
Through his leadership and passion, Chen Fei continues to play a pivotal role in the protection of Asia’s majestic elephants and the preservation of Southwest China’s invaluable rainforest ecosystems.
