Severe rainstorms have swept through the Chinese mainland's Anhui Province, affecting over 811,000 residents and forcing the evacuation of 195,000 people, according to local authorities on Sunday.
The provincial emergency management department reported that by 4 p.m., rainstorms had impacted 35 counties and districts across six prefecture-level cities in Anhui. The Yangtze River, China's longest river, has seen water levels in its Anhui section surpass warning thresholds, with levels continuing to rise.
In addition to the Yangtze, 19 other rivers in the province have experienced water levels above their alert marks due to the torrential rains. Over the past 24 hours until 5 p.m. Sunday, 258 weather stations recorded precipitation exceeding 100 mm, with the highest measurement reaching 255 mm.
In response to the escalating situation, authorities in eight cities within Anhui, including five along the Yangtze River, have deployed a total of 26,000 personnel to patrol dikes and manage the floodwaters. These proactive measures aim to mitigate the impact of the storms and ensure the safety of the affected communities.
