Heavy Rains Cause Floods and Landslides in Southwestern Switzerland

Violent downpours have struck southwestern Switzerland, leading to severe floods and landslides in the region. Emergency services have mobilized with helicopters, drones, and rescue dogs to search for three people who remain missing after the heavy rains.

MeteoSchweiz, the government’s office for weather and climate, reported that a staggering 124 millimeters of rain fell in the Mesolcina Valley in the canton of Grisons on Friday. Notably, 63 millimeters of rain poured down within just one hour, intensifying the situation and making rescue efforts more challenging.

The affected communities are urged to stay updated with the latest weather reports and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities. The swift response from emergency teams highlights the gravity of the situation as they work tirelessly to ensure the safety of all residents.
