Deadly Heatwave in Delhi and Noida Claims 19 Lives

Over the past 72 hours, a severe heatwave has swept through Delhi and the neighboring city of Noida, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 19 people due to heatstroke. The Indian capital saw five fatalities, while Noida reported nearly 14 deaths, highlighting the intense impact of the soaring temperatures.

In response to the escalating crisis, the federal government has issued an advisory to public hospitals, urging them to prioritize the treatment of heatstroke patients. Currently, more than 60 individuals suffering from heatstroke are admitted across various hospitals in the region, with the majority being laborers and residents aged above 65 years.

The mercury has been hovering around 45 degrees Celsius during the daytime, creating hazardous conditions for the residents of Delhi and its surrounding areas. The extreme heatwave has not only taken a human toll but has also disrupted daily activities. According to a report by private news agency ANI, flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport have been adversely affected, causing delays and cancellations.

As the heatwave continues, authorities are urging people to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and seek immediate medical attention if experiencing symptoms of heatstroke.
