China Pledges $126M for Nationwide Flood and Drought Relief

Chinese authorities have allocated 916 million yuan (approximately $126 million) to bolster relief efforts against floods and droughts across the nation's southern and northern regions. This substantial funding, announced by the Ministry of Finance, aims to support disaster response activities and enhance safety measures.

Of the total allocation, 499 million yuan is designated for flood control and relief operations in nine provinces, including Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, and Hubei. Additionally, 417 million yuan will be directed towards water conservancy and drought relief initiatives in Hebei, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi, and Gansu.

As June progresses, several provinces have ramped up their emergency responses due to intense rainfall, leading to overflowing rivers and severe flooding, particularly in Fujian Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Guangdong Province. In response, China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters elevated the emergency response level for Guangxi from Level IV to Level III, while maintaining Level IV responses for Guangdong and Fujian.

To support affected communities, urgent shipments of disaster relief supplies, including emergency kits and tents, are being dispatched to the hardest-hit areas. These efforts aim to provide comprehensive assistance for local resettlement and alleviate the impact of the floods on residents.
