Torrential rains have wreaked havoc in southeast China's Fujian Province, forcing the evacuation of 36,000 residents, according to the provincial flood control office on Sunday.
Days of persistent heavy rain have led to widespread flooding across the region, prompting the declaration of an emergency response to the rainstorms.
As of 8 p.m. on Saturday, the latest round of rainfall had impacted approximately 179,800 individuals and damaged 12,350 hectares of crops, resulting in direct economic losses amounting to 1.61 billion yuan (about $225 million).
Longyan City's Wuping County has been particularly hard hit. By 10 a.m. on Monday, four people had lost their lives, and two remained missing due to multiple landslides triggered by the intense rainfall. Additionally, 378 houses collapsed, and 880 hectares of crops were damaged in the county.
