Xijiang River Faces 2024’s First Major Flood in Pearl River Basin

The Xijiang River in the Pearl River basin is currently grappling with its first significant flood of 2024, as announced by China's Ministry of Water Resources on Saturday. This event, designated as the \"No.1 Flood,\" marks the first instance of severe flooding in a single river for the year.

At 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, water levels at the Wuzhou hydrological station in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region surged to the warning line of 18.5 meters, prompting urgent measures to safeguard local communities and infrastructure.

This year has already seen seven heavy floods in the Pearl River basin, highlighting the region's vulnerability to extreme weather events. Experts are monitoring the situation closely, emphasizing the importance of robust flood management strategies to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters.

As climate patterns continue to shift, the authorities are urging residents to stay informed and prepared for potential flooding scenarios. The ongoing efforts aim to ensure the safety and resilience of the communities along the Xijiang River and the broader Pearl River basin.
