Severe Weather Hits the Chinese mainland: Yellow Alert Renewed

The Chinese mainland has renewed its yellow alert for severe convection weather, signaling the onset of thunderstorms, strong gales, hail, and heavy rainfall across several regions. This alert, issued by the National Meteorological Center on Thursday, extends from Thursday morning until Friday morning.

Areas affected by the severe weather include Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei, Beijing, Shandong, Jiangxi, Guizhou, and Guangxi. Residents in these regions can expect intense heavy rainfall, with hourly precipitation rates ranging from 50 millimeters to over 80 millimeters, potentially causing significant disruptions.

In addition to the challenging weather conditions, the heavy rainfall is expected to provide relief to regions like Shandong and Shaanxi, which are currently experiencing drought. The influx of rainwater may help alleviate water shortages and support agricultural activities in these areas.

The National Meteorological Center has advised drivers to exercise caution on the roads due to low visibility caused by the heavy rain and storms. Additionally, vessels operating in the affected areas are urged to maintain a safe navigation distance to prevent accidents.

The Chinese mainland employs a three-tier color-coded weather warning system for severe convection weather and sandstorms. The highest warning level is orange, followed by yellow and blue. The current yellow alert serves as a critical warning for residents and authorities to prepare for and respond to the impending severe weather conditions.
