The South-to-North Water Diversion Project's middle route has successfully transferred a total of 10 billion cubic meters of water to Beijing. Of this, 7 billion cubic meters have been directly allocated to urban domestic water supply, making it the city’s primary water source and benefiting over 16 million residents, according to the Beijing Water Authority.
With this significant influx of water, Beijing has established a robust water resource guarantee system that integrates diverted water, surface water, groundwater, reclaimed water, and rainwater. This comprehensive approach ensures scientific and precise water resource management, allowing for coordinated control of multiple water sources to meet the city's growing demands.
