New Orange-Red Fungus Species Discovered in Yunnan

In an exciting development, Chinese researchers have identified a new fungus species, Cystoderma yongpingense, in Yongping County of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, located in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The findings, published in the academic journal Mycoscience, reveal that this species boasts a wrinkled pileus with a persistent annulus that is both membranous and floccose-scaly. Its vibrant color ranges from light orange-red to a deeper orange-red, setting it apart from other known fungi.

This discovery not only enriches the biodiversity of the Yunnan region but also provides new opportunities for research in mycology and potential applications in various industries, including medicine and agriculture.
