Chinese Scientists Discover Vibrant New Fungus in Yunnan

A team of Chinese researchers has made a significant contribution to mycology by discovering a new fungus species, Cystoderma yongpingense, in Yongping County of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, located in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

Published in the academic journal Mycoscience, the findings reveal that this species features a wrinkled pileus with a persistent annulus that is both membranous and floccose-scaly. Its vibrant colors range from light orange-red to a deeper orange-red, highlighting the rich biodiversity of the region.

This discovery not only enhances the scientific community's understanding of the diverse fungal life in Yunnan but also underscores the province's status as a hotspot for unique and unexplored species.
