SADC Nations Called to Ramp Up Environmental Efforts

In a significant call to action, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) members have been urged to fast-track their environmental protection initiatives. Boemo Sekgoma, secretary general of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, emphasized the urgency during a webinar on Thursday, addressing regional parliamentarians.

Sekgoma highlighted the pivotal role that parliaments play in ensuring government and industry compliance with environmental regulations and commitments. \"The role of parliaments is integral in shaping and enforcing environmental regulatory frameworks that seek to protect natural resources, reduce pollution, and promote renewable energy,\" he stated.

By accelerating environmental policies, SADC nations can better safeguard their natural resources, combat pollution, and drive the adoption of renewable energy sources. This proactive approach not only benefits the region's ecosystems but also supports sustainable economic growth and resilience against climate change.

The call to enhance environmental protection efforts aligns with global trends toward sustainability and green innovation, positioning SADC members as leaders in the fight against environmental degradation.
