Wednesday marks World Environment Day, a global initiative encouraging individuals and nations to protect our planet. This year's campaign emphasizes land restoration, combatting desertification, and enhancing drought resilience.
In line with these goals, the Chinese mainland has significantly ramped up its greening efforts over the past decade. Official data reveals that 58.9 million hectares of forest have been planted, contributing to biodiversity and carbon sequestration.
From 2018 to 2023, 23.3 million hectares of grassland were improved through extensive grass planting initiatives, while 12 million hectares of land were safeguarded against desertification. These efforts underscore China's commitment to sustainable environmental practices and resilience against climate challenges.
The accompanying graphs illustrate the remarkable progress of China's greening initiatives since 2014, highlighting the ongoing dedication to a greener future.
