Cyclone Remal Claims 32 Lives, Devastates Communities in India

Cyclone Remal has left a trail of destruction across India, claiming the lives of at least 32 people and injuring many more. The eastern state of West Bengal has seen the death toll rise to seven, with severe storms and rainfall-induced landslides wreaking havoc. In the northeastern states, Mizoram has been particularly hard-hit, where a stone quarry collapse resulted in seventeen fatalities and left seven individuals trapped under debris.

Assam is not spared either, with three deaths and seventeen injuries reported due to rain-related incidents. Meghalaya has also suffered, as a wall collapse in the East Jaintia Hills district killed one person and caused injuries to four others following a landslide. Nagaland has experienced four deaths and significant damage to over forty houses, highlighting the widespread impact of Cyclone Remal across the region.

The devastating effects of Cyclone Remal underscore the urgent need for improved infrastructure and disaster preparedness in vulnerable areas. As climate change continues to increase the frequency and intensity of such natural disasters, communities must prioritize resilience and sustainable practices to mitigate future risks.
