The Kunming Biodiversity Fund, aimed at supporting biodiversity conservation in developing countries, was officially launched in Beijing, the Chinese mainland, on Tuesday. This initiative is expected to make a significant contribution to aiding developing nations in conserving and reversing their biodiversity loss.
The signing ceremony for the fund was witnessed by officials from China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment and relevant UN agencies, highlighting the collaborative effort to address global environmental challenges.
Originally announced in October 2021, China committed to establishing the fund by investing 1.5 billion yuan (over $210 million) during the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) held in Kunming City, southwest China's Yunnan Province. The fund is designed to support biodiversity protection efforts in developing countries, reinforcing China's commitment to global sustainability and environmental stewardship.
