Mexico City Breaks Heat Record Amid Deadly Heat Wave

Mexico City has shattered its temperature records, reaching a blistering 34.7°C on Saturday. This marks the highest temperature ever recorded in the capital, as reported by the National Meteorological Service from the Tacubaya observatory.

The previous record of 34.4°C was set just a day earlier at the same station, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing heat wave affecting the country.

Tragically, the heat wave has claimed 48 lives since March, according to government reports released on Friday. Additionally, more than 950 people have suffered various health issues related to the extreme temperatures as of May 21, as stated by the health ministry.

The eastern coastal state of Veracruz has been the hardest hit, with 14 deaths reported. Other regions such as Tabasco, San Luis Potosi, and Tamaulipas have each recorded eight fatalities.

Authorities are urging residents to take precautions and stay hydrated as the heat wave shows no signs of abating.
