Severe storms have left more than 190,000 homes and businesses in Texas without power as recovery efforts gain momentum. Last week's relentless weather battered the region, causing widespread outages that also affected Louisiana, Mississippi, and Kansas.
On Monday, PowerOutage.us reported that the number of customers without service decreased from a staggering 946,000 on Friday to 190,000 in Texas alone. In Kansas, approximately 14,902 residents are still awaiting power restoration following the weekend's storms.
The Houston area was particularly hard-hit when hurricane-force winds swept through the city on Thursday. Mayor John Whitmire confirmed that the storm resulted in the tragic loss of four lives, shattered windows in high-rise buildings, and left around 800,000 customers without electricity. CenterPoint Energy, the primary utility provider, has been working tirelessly to restore power and has already reconnected over 700,000 customers. They aim to substantially complete restoration by Wednesday evening.
Despite the significant progress, challenges remain as the region continues to cope with the aftermath of the storms. The resilience and swift response of the community and energy companies are crucial in bringing stability back to affected areas.
