A recent ruling by the Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court has mandated the German government to bolster its climate protection initiatives. The court determined that current measures fall short of achieving the nation's climate goals.
In its statement released on Thursday, the court highlighted the government's failure to meet binding emission reduction targets across various sectors. Additionally, it criticized the climate protection program for \"methodological shortcomings and unrealistic assumptions.\"
The decision, which allows for potential appeals, upheld two complaints filed by Environmental Action Germany (DUH). Juergen Resch, director of DUH, stated, \"The government can no longer shirk its responsibility for climate protection.\"
