West Sumatra Devastated by Deadly Floods and Landslides: 28 Dead

Heavy rains unleashed devastating floods and landslides in West Sumatra, Indonesia, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 28 lives. Authorities continue to search for four missing individuals as the region grapples with the aftermath of the disaster.

Abdul Malik, the chief of the provincial rescue team, confirmed the fatalities and the ongoing search efforts, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

The national disaster management agency, BNPB, reported that the flooding, which began on Saturday night, has significantly impacted the Tanah Datar regency. Five sub-districts are currently affected, with mudslides making several areas inaccessible.

Recent assessments by BNPB reveal that 84 housing units and 16 bridges have been damaged, disrupting daily life and infrastructure. In response, heavy machinery has been deployed to expedite the clearing of road access, ensuring that relief efforts can reach those in need more efficiently.

The community remains resilient as rescue teams work around the clock to restore normalcy and support affected residents in West Sumatra.
