The boy and two adults were attempting to reach dry ground when their car became stuck in the floodwaters. Emergency responders rescued the two adults around 5 a.m. and took them to a hospital, but the child was found deceased in the water at approximately 7:20 a.m., according to Jamie Moore, Johnson County Emergency Management director.
The overnight storms delivered up to 23 centimeters of rain across areas from central Texas to the Dallas-Fort Worth region, causing road washouts west of Waco. National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Stalley emphasized the severity of the situation, as the heavy rains continue to impact the region's infrastructure and safety.
