China's National Meteorological Center has renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms, signaling significant heavy downpours expected across various regions. The alert, part of a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, indicates that heavy rain and rainstorms are forecast from 2 p.m. Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Areas in Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces are bracing for intense rainfall, with some regions in Guangdong and Jiangxi anticipating torrential downpours of 100-180 millimeters. The National Climate Center reports that southern China is experiencing substantially higher rainfall this month, with precipitation levels projected to be 20 to 50 percent above the average for this period.
Data reveals that the average precipitation in China reached 61.1 mm in April, marking a 51.8 percent increase over the typical average and ranking as the second-highest since 1961. The early days of May have seen severe flood control challenges in the Pearl River Basin and the Yangtze River Basin, particularly in regions south of the Yangtze River.
The meteorological center has emphasized the need for preventive measures against secondary disasters such as mountain torrents, landslides, and mudslides triggered by the heavy rainfall. Additionally, efforts are being made to address potential urban and rural waterlogging. Tourists visiting the affected areas are advised to stay vigilant by monitoring local weather forecasts and taking necessary safety precautions.
