Ruang Volcano Erupts in Indonesia, Tsunami Warning Raised for Tagulandang Island

Indonesia's Ruang volcano erupted explosively early Tuesday, sending incandescent lava high into the night sky. The eruption was accompanied by lightning flashes lighting up the volcano's crater, creating a dramatic nighttime spectacle.

In response to the volcanic activity, the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) issued a tsunami warning for residents on Tagulandang island, the closest landmass to Ruang volcano. The warning cautioned that volcanic materials collapsing into the ocean could potentially trigger a tsunami, posing a significant threat to the island's inhabitants.

PVMBG official Hetty Triastuty confirmed that the tsunami warning remained in effect as of the afternoon. Officials urged all residents to remain vigilant and avoid approaching the volcano to ensure their safety.

The alert status for Ruang volcano has been elevated to the highest level following the eruption, signaling the need for immediate precautionary measures. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to mitigate any further risks to the surrounding communities.
