Heavy Rains in Afghanistan Claim 29 Lives and Devastate Communities

Severe rains have swept through Afghanistan over the past four days, resulting in the tragic loss of 29 lives.

The government’s disaster management department reported that the downpours, which occurred between Wednesday and Saturday, affected 10 provinces across the country.

In addition to the fatalities, seven individuals sustained injuries. The relentless rains have also caused significant property damage, with 72 homes either damaged or destroyed. Agricultural areas have not been spared, as more than 2,500 acres of farmland were washed away, impacting local food supplies and livelihoods.

Official figures indicate that over 100 people have lost their lives to flooding this month alone. The humanitarian situation remains dire, with more than 25,000 families requiring urgent aid in the aftermath of the deluge.
