Name the New Baby Grey Snub-Nosed Monkey in Guizhou Reserve

A New Arrival at Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve

We’re excited to welcome a new member to the Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve family! Mother Fanfan and father Tiantian have given birth to a healthy female grey snub-nosed monkey on March 21, 2024. The newborn, affectionately awaiting a name from our innovative readers, is thriving under the care of the reserve’s dedicated staff.

The Guizhou grey snub-nosed monkey is one of China’s most cherished endangered species, with only around 800 individuals left worldwide. These remarkable monkeys inhabit the mountainous forests of Fanjingshan, thriving at elevations between 500 to 2,000 meters above sea level.

First designated as a national first-level protected animal in 1989, the Guizhou grey snub-nosed monkey was classified as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2008. Conservation efforts at Fanjingshan are crucial for the survival of this species, and naming the newest member is a wonderful way to engage the global community in these vital initiatives.

Join us in giving this adorable infant a name that reflects its heritage and the ongoing efforts to preserve its species. Your creativity can make a difference!
