In an exciting development for wildlife enthusiasts, the Nanshan Provincial Nature Reserve in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, unveiled rare footage of three leopard cats on Tuesday. The captivating footage was captured by reserve staff during their routine analysis of infrared camera data.
Lou Xiaoli, a dedicated staff member at the reserve, shared insights about the footage. \"In this footage, we captured three leopard cats, including one female and two young cubs. The female leopard cat was very alert in front of our infrared camera. After confirming that it was safe, she left the area with the two cubs,\" Lou explained.
Leopard cats typically inhabit mountainous forest areas rich in shrubs and are classified under second-class state protection in China. Observing three leopard cats together is a rare occurrence, as these felines usually lead solitary lives outside the breeding season. The sighting suggests that the female was nurturing her cubs and taking them out to find food during the night, highlighting a healthy population within the reserve.
The Nanshan Provincial Nature Reserve stands as the largest of its kind in Zhejiang Province.
