Inner Mongolia’s Bold Moves to Transform Desert into Lush Oasis

Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in North China is making significant strides in combating desertification and promoting renewable energy. The region is implementing a comprehensive integration project that combines large-scale afforestation with ecological and photovoltaic initiatives.

Key projects include the Phase II comprehensive management of the desert in Alshaa League, the construction of the \"Photovoltaic Great Wall\" in the Kubuqi Desert of Ordos City, and efforts to eliminate the Hunshandake Desert in Xilingol League. Additionally, new energy utilization projects are underway in Chifeng City, further boosting the region's commitment to sustainable development.

These initiatives are part of the larger Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program, a vast afforestation and ecological project that spans across 13 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China. Covering an impressive 4.07 million square kilometers, the program stretches from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the west to Heilongjiang Province in the east.

In 2023, Inner Mongolia plans to plant over 200,000 hectares of trees and more than 866,667 hectares of grass. The region also aims to treat over 1 million hectares of desertified and sandy land. Moreover, it will add 13.2 million kilowatts of new energy installations and complete the comprehensive management of approximately 153,333 hectares of desertified land.

These efforts not only aim to restore ecological balance but also to harness renewable energy, creating a sustainable future for Inner Mongolia and setting an example for other regions grappling with desertification.
