China has made significant progress in its greening efforts over the past decade, leading to substantial growth in forest areas and increased carbon storage.
According to the National Forest and Grassland Administration, the country’s forest area expanded from 208 million hectares a decade ago to 231 million hectares today. This growth not only boosts wood resources but also plays a crucial role in carbon sequestration, helping to combat climate change.
Forest coverage has risen from 21.63% to 24.02%, with forest growing stock increasing from 15.137 billion to 19.493 billion cubic meters. These achievements make China responsible for about one-quarter of the world’s new green spaces in the last twenty years, marking the fastest and largest growth in forest resources globally.
Such strides in afforestation and reforestation not only enhance biodiversity but also support sustainable development goals, illustrating China’s commitment to environmental sustainability and global ecological balance.
