In the remote expanse of Xainza County, nestled within the city of Nagqu in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, a solar revolution is warming homes and hearts. Situated at an impressive altitude of nearly 4,700 meters, this region faces thin air and a cold, dry climate. Rows of solar thermal collectors now dot the landscape, providing clean and reliable heating to over 2,900 residents. The solar central heating system spans approximately 175,400 square meters, benefiting 851 households, three schools, and various office buildings. Yang Tsering, a local resident, shares his experience: \"The plants in my room grow even better after the heating was turned on.\" Reflecting on the past, Yang recalls how his family struggled with heated homes, burning two cartloads of cow dung in the stove each winter. The introduction of solar central heating has allowed them to bid farewell to smoky and inefficient heating methods.
Yang Cankui, the manager of the local company responsible for operating and maintaining the central heating system, explains that the heating season extends for seven months, from November to June, providing 24-hour continuous heating. This reliable system ensures that residents can enjoy warm and comfortable homes throughout the extended winter period.
