Weishan’s Timeless Charm on the Ancient Tea Horse Road

Weishan County, located in the heart of southwest Yunnan Province, is a gem along the historic Ancient Tea Horse Road. Known for its breathtaking natural beauty and well-preserved cultural relics, Weishan serves as a living testament to the rich heritage of the Nanzhao Kingdom, which thrived between 738 and 902 AD.

The Weishan Ancient City, established during the Ming Dynasty, boasts a history spanning over 600 years. Situated approximately 75 kilometers from the more renowned Dali Old Town, the city features a unique chessboard-like square layout with slanted streets. This ingenious design not only adds to the city's aesthetic appeal but also helps mitigate the harsh northerly winds during winter, showcasing the ancient wisdom in urban planning.

At the crossroads of four streets stands the iconic Xinggong Tower, a landmark that has been a silent witness to Weishan's evolution since its construction in 1390. The tower not only serves as a historical emblem but also as a focal point for locals and visitors alike, embodying the enduring spirit of this ancient city.
