Heavy rains in Bolivia's capital, La Paz, have led authorities to declare a state of emergency, as overflowing rivers destroyed numerous homes over the weekend. A government document released on Sunday highlights the severity of the situation.
In response, Bolivian President Luis Arce has committed to deploying heavy machinery and 3,000 troops to mitigate further damage and support affected communities.
The relentless rainfall has caused flooding in several neighborhoods, cutting off access to water, electricity, and roads, thereby isolating parts of the city.
Expressing his concern, Arce stated on social media platform X, \"We are deeply concerned by the difficult situation that our municipality in La Paz is going through.\"
The heavy rains have tragically resulted in the death of one person in La Paz over the weekend. Nationwide, nearly 50 fatalities have been reported since the onset of the rainy season in January, according to official data.
