Mongolia is grappling with a devastating winter, as extreme weather conditions have led to the death of more than 1.5 million livestock, according to the country's State Emergency Commission (SEC).
\"As of today, at least 1,527,695 head of livestock have perished due to the dzud across the country,\" reported Sainbuyan Amarsaikhan, Mongolia's deputy prime minister and head of the SEC, during a recent press conference.
The term \"dzud\" refers to a severe winter in Mongolia, characterized by intensely cold temperatures and heavy snowfall that freeze the ground, making it difficult for livestock to graze and survive.
The loss of such a significant number of livestock poses a serious threat to Mongolia's economy and the livelihoods of countless herders who depend on their animals for sustenance and income.
