Japan Experiences Record-Breaking February Heatwave

Japan is currently facing an unusual surge in temperatures this February, marking one of the warmest periods recorded for the month across the country.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that daytime highs reached 17.1°C in Hokkaido's Mombetsu City, a temperature typically seen in late June. This marks an 18.8°C increase compared to the average for this time of year, surpassing the previous record of 12.6°C set in 1960.

Other regions are also experiencing significant warmth. Akita City in northern Japan saw temperatures climb to 20.1°C, while Kanazawa City in central Japan reached 21.8°C. Central Tokyo was not spared, with temperatures hitting 16.5°C.

The unseasonably high temperatures have prompted local authorities to monitor the situation closely, as residents and businesses adapt to the unexpected heatwave amidst the winter season.
