Xinjiang Police Rescue Herdsmen and Livestock Stranded by Severe Snowstorm

Eight herdsmen and a thousand sheep and cattle were trapped by a severe snowstorm while traveling to a settlement in the Yili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, located in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the Chinese mainland. The incident occurred around midnight on Friday, highlighting the harsh weather conditions that have recently affected multiple regions in Xinjiang.

Upon receiving a distress call, local police swiftly mobilized to the scene, leading a rescue mission that resulted in the safe arrival of the herdsmen and their livestock at their destination after an arduous three-hour walk. This successful operation underscores the dedication of local authorities in ensuring the safety of residents and their livestock amid challenging weather.

The recent severe snowstorms in Xinjiang have disrupted transportation and daily life. From last Friday to Sunday, some train services were suspended due to the inclement weather, leaving passengers stranded. Authorities provided stranded travelers with essential supplies, including food and hot water, to ensure their well-being during the disruptions.

This pattern of severe snowstorms raises concerns about the region's preparedness for extreme weather events and highlights the need for enhanced infrastructure and emergency response strategies to better support residents and travelers in the future.
