China's meteorological authority has renewed a blue alert for blizzards, signaling intense snowfall in Hunan and Jiangxi provinces from Wednesday to Thursday morning.
The National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecasts that central and southern Hunan, along with southern and western Jiangxi, will experience heavy snow, with some areas expecting up to 10 cm of snowfall.
In addition to the blizzards, the NMC has issued a blue alert for low temperatures across central, southern, southwestern, and eastern regions of the country. Temperatures in parts of Henan, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang are expected to plummet by over 5 degrees Celsius compared to historical averages for this period.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, and local authorities are advised to take precautions against road icing and agricultural freezing. The NMC has called on local governments to prepare thoroughly for the impending blizzards.
The Ministry of Emergency Management, along with another government department, activated a Level IV national emergency response on Tuesday to address disasters caused by low temperatures, rain, snow, and freezing conditions in Hubei and Hunan provinces. Approximately 20,000 disaster relief items, including cotton-padded quilts, have been dispatched to Hunan to support those affected.
China operates a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red indicating the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. The current blue alert emphasizes the need for vigilance and preparedness among the affected regions.
