Dongshuang Island: A Natural Haven for Eastern Fujian White-Browed Goats

Nestled in the eastern waters of Xiapu County, Fujian Province, Dongshuang Island stands as a picturesque member of the Sishuang Archipelago. Resembling a majestic beast, the island is uniquely divided by the forces of wind and tide into \"half precipice and half greenery.\"

On the western side of Dongshuang Island, gentle grassy slopes provide a serene pasture for the native goats, known locally as the \"eastern Fujian white-browed goats.\" These goats are easily recognizable by the distinctive white lines around their eyes, resembling eyebrows. Adapted to their lush environment, they thrive on a diet of various herbs, fresh twigs, and leaves. Even lactating lambs follow their ewes to indulge in the tender new shoots.

These agile creatures are exceptional climbers, often seen navigating the island's cliffs with ease. Their keen eyesight, enhanced by rectangular pupils that rotate horizontally up to 50 degrees, grants them a nearly panoramic view of their surroundings. From mountaintops, they gaze out over the vast sea, becoming a harmonious part of the stunning ocean vistas.

As the sun sets, the herd bathes in the sea breeze, their silhouettes merging with the magnificent coastal landscape. Dongshuang Island not only showcases the beauty of nature but also highlights the delicate balance between wildlife and their habitat.
