In the breathtaking Angsai Grand Canyon, nestled in Zadoi County of Yushu Xizang Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Qinghai Province, life thrives both for the local Tibetan herders and the diverse wildlife they cherish.
Known as the \"Valley of Big Cats,\" Angsai Grand Canyon is a sanctuary for numerous species, including five precious wild felines. This rich biodiversity makes it a vital ecological hotspot in the headwaters of the Lancang River.
Among the herders is Kunga, who grew up amidst this stunning landscape. His deep connection with the surrounding wildlife is evident in his everyday life. Whenever injured animals are found, they are brought to Kunga's home, transforming his backyard into a safe haven for these creatures.
A poignant example of Kunga's dedication occurred in December 2020. A black-necked crane, injured by a bird of prey while crossing the canyon, found itself unable to migrate to the warmer south due to a damaged wing. The protection station staff in Angsai Township reached out to Kunga, entrusting him with the care of the distressed bird. Embracing the role, Kunga provided the crane with the necessary care, ensuring its safety and well-being.
Kunga's actions highlight the harmonious relationship between the herders and the wildlife of Angsai Grand Canyon. His commitment not only aids in the conservation of these magnificent animals but also fosters a spirit of coexistence that is essential for preserving this natural paradise for future generations.
