China to Experience First Cold Wave of 2024 with Heavy Snowfalls

The Chinese mainland is set to face its first cold snap of 2024, as a significant cold wave is forecasted to hit from Saturday to Tuesday. The National Meteorological Center (NMC) announced that the weather system will bring gales and intense snowfall across the central and eastern regions.

Temperatures could plummet by as much as 14 degrees Celsius, abruptly ending a period of unseasonable warmth. This drastic temperature drop is expected to disrupt daily life and local economies in the affected areas.

In addition to the central and eastern regions, heavy snow and blizzards are predicted to impact a large portion of south China from Sunday to Monday, potentially causing travel disruptions and power outages.

In response to the impending weather, the NMC issued a blue alert for the cold wave on Friday evening, advising residents in the affected regions to prepare for adverse conditions. China's weather warning system for cold waves operates on four color codes, with red indicating the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
