World’s Only Panda Triplets Turn 11 at Guangzhou Safari Park

Tuesday marks a milestone for panda conservation in the Chinese mainland: the world’s only surviving panda triplets, Meng Meng, Shuai Shuai and Ku Ku, celebrate their 11th birthday at Guangzhou Chimelong Safari Park. Born in 2014 within just four hours of one another, these siblings captured global hearts from day one.

Their arrival was a rare success story for the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. After mother Ju Xiao gave birth to Meng Meng—the only female of the trio—park veterinarians hand-reared all three cubs to boost their survival chances. A decade later, all three are thriving, becoming ambassadors for endangered-species protection.

Visitors from around the world often tune in to livestreams and in-park events to watch the trio’s playful antics. From bamboo-gorging afternoons to agile tree-climbing sessions, Meng Meng, Shuai Shuai and Ku Ku showcase the charm and resilience of their species. Their 11th birthday festivities include special enrichment activities and interactive talks with panda keepers.

This milestone reminds us of the power of collaborative conservation efforts. As the global community seeks new ways to safeguard biodiversity, the story of these panda triplets highlights how targeted care and international support can bring endangered animals back from the brink.
