Beijing’s historic Taoranting Park has transformed into a winter wonderland for its 15th annual Ice and Snow Carnival, merging classical Chinese garden aesthetics with adrenaline-pumping cold-weather activities. Visitors can glide down ice slides, race snowmobiles, or test their balance on curling lanes – all against the backdrop of frozen lakes and pavilions dating back to the Ming Dynasty.
The month-long event (December 15-February 15) caters to both families and thrill-seekers, featuring snow saucer hills for younger guests and competitive ice sports demonstrations. Organizers emphasize eco-friendly practices, using artificial snow production systems that reduce water consumption by 40% compared to previous editions.
‘This carnival showcases how urban green spaces can evolve with climate-conscious programming,’ said event coordinator Li Wei. ‘We’ve seen a 25% increase in international visitors this year, particularly digital nomads combining work trips with winter experiences.’
