Harbin Winter Games Merge Sport & Lantern Festival Magic

Harbin, China – The 9th Asian Winter Games isn’t just about elite athletic competition. This year, it’s also a vibrant celebration of cultural unity as the event coincides with the Chinese Lantern Festival, blending sportsmanship with centuries-old traditions.

Over 500 athletes from across Asia participated in lantern-making workshops, crafting intricate designs symbolizing peace and solidarity. Teams also gathered to make tangyuan (sweet rice balls) – a Lunar New Year staple – while learning traditional dances like the Yangge, fostering cross-cultural connections.

\"Sharing our customs with fellow athletes adds deeper meaning to the Games,\" said a snowboarding competitor from Thailand. The fusion of sport and heritage aligns with rising global interest in experiential travel and cultural diplomacy among younger generations.
