APEC 2023: Peru Leads Discussions on Empowering the Global South

Peru is set to host the annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum from November 10 to 16 this year. As APEC continues to evolve, it has become a dynamic engine for economic growth and a pivotal regional forum in the Asia-Pacific region. This year, the focus is increasingly on engaging with Global South countries, fostering mutual economic benefit and promoting sustainable development.

In a special episode of THE HYPE, experts delve into the significance of APEC's relationship with the Global South. CGTN's host, Li Jingjing, engages with Marcelo Vergaray, a Peruvian agricultural expert; Gisela Cernadas, an Argentine economist; and Chong Kar Fee, a Malaysian student from the College of Engineering at the China Agricultural University. Together, they explore how strengthening economic and agricultural connections can enhance trade opportunities and collaborative efforts to address global challenges such as climate change and economic inequality.

The discussions highlight the essential role that collaborative strategies play in driving sustainable growth and ensuring that the benefits of economic development reach all sectors of society. By leveraging the collective expertise of leaders from diverse backgrounds, APEC aims to create a more inclusive and resilient economic landscape across the Asia-Pacific region.
